Flyball is a team sport for dogs that was invented in California in the late 70's. Legend has it that Herbert Wagner first showed it on the Johnny Carson Show to millions of Americans. Soon afterwards, dog training clubs in the Detroit/Toronto area were making and using Flyball Boxes. In the early 80's the sport became so popular that the North American Flyball Association (NAFA) was formed and became the worldwide authority for Flyball.

The sport itself is similar to drag racing. Each team runs four dogs and usually has a fifth dog in reserve. The course consists of a starting line, 4 hurdles spaced 10 feet apart, and a box at the end. The first hurdle is 6 feet from the start line and the box is 15 feet from the last hurdle for an overall length of 51 feet. The first dog races down the course, leaping over the 4 hurdles, to the box, spring-loaded with a tennis ball. They then step on the box's pedal to release the ball, which the dog then catches. Then she / he burns back down the course, back over the same hurdles, crossing a line which sends the next dog away. After four dogs have successfully navigated the course the relay is complete.

There are no restrictions to breed, size, pedigree, or age.

Our approach to obedience training is “keep it simple”. We only use approved positive training methods (ie clicker training) to help you achieve the most out of your training time. It is our belief that your dog will learn quicker and more efficiently if they are having fun.

We teach both voice and hand signals with our progressive training methods. Our goal is to make your training experience positive and enjoyable while building the bond between you and your canine companion.

BEGINNER (8 weeks) $150.00

After Beginner class, you may choose to increase your dogs skills in our Advanced class. Throughout the eight weeks you will learn off-leash control and focus, advanced recall skills and the refinement of your verbal/hand signals.

Dog agility is a sport in which a dog moves through an obstacle course with the guidance of his or her handler. Dogs run off leash, so the handler's only controls are voice and body language. In competition, both accuracy and speed are important. During 1977, a group of dog training enthusiasts had a meeting to work out a new dog competition which they had been asked to put on as a demonstration event at Crufts in 1978. The format they came up with would take some of the obstacles from working sheep dog trials, combining it with the concept of show jumping and would require obedience. This new sport was to be called Dog Agility.

In 1979 it was back again at Crufts only this time it was a competition and not a demonstration. It would be true to say that in the early years the dog agility was an amusing interlude for the audience but now it has grown into a major competition. Since 1979 agility has exploded all around the world. There are many different disciplines of agility and thousands of clubs that focus in each discipline. In Alberta, you can attend a trial almost every weekend in different cities around the province.

GROUNDWORK (8 weeks) $150.00

This is where the training begins. The skills learned in the Groundwork class will form the base of the dog/handler relationship that carry through all future levels of agility and competition. In these classes you will learn: some obstacle performance, agility specific skills and basic handling.

FOUNDATIONS SKILLS I (8 weeks) $150.00

In our Foundation Skills classes you will continue learning obstacle performance with safe execution, two to three obstacle sequences and further reinforcement of agility skills.

FOUNDATIONS SKILLS II (8 weeks) $150.00

Carrying on from Foundation Skills I, you will continue to sequence obstacles with advanced instruction on handling skills and new techniques.

FUNDAMENTALS I (8 weeks) $150.00

FUNDAMENTALS II (8 weeks) $150.00

Continuing with the skills learned in Fundamentals I, we now take you into pattern recognition, obstacle discrimination, distance work and hard angle approaches.

COMPETITION (8 weeks) $150.00
